I qualified as an acupuncturist in 1999, following four years of study in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Northern College of Acupuncture in York. After graduating, I spent five years practising at the York Clinic of Integrated Medicine before relocating to Bahrain in the Middle East, where I lived and worked for eight years.
During this time, I was part of a small hospital team specialising in the rehabilitation and management of complex health conditions, including stroke and multiple sclerosis (MS). This experience broadened my understanding of the role of complementary therapies within a wider healthcare setting and deepened my appreciation of the importance of supporting people through both physical and emotional challenges.
Since returning to the UK in 2012, I have continued to develop my clinical practice at York Natural Health, alongside teaching and supervising degree students at the Northern College of Acupuncture, where I have worked as a Clinic Supervisor and classroom tutor.
Alongside my acupuncture practice, I have a longstanding interest in the relationship between physical and emotional wellbeing. I am also a yoga and Qi Gong teacher, bringing together my love of mindful movement, breathwork and traditional Chinese health practices.
My Approach to Treatment
I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including traditional acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion (moxa), acupressure massage, relaxation techniques and counselling. Where appropriate, treatment may also incorporate gentle yoga-based stretches and movement exercises to support muscular strength, joint stability and mobility, alongside individualised dietary and lifestyle advice.
I have experience treating a wide range of conditions, including musculoskeletal problems, headaches and migraines, digestive disorders, emotional and psychological difficulties, gynaecological conditions and pregnancy-related concerns.
At the heart of my approach is a belief that effective treatment begins with taking time to listen and understand each person as an individual. She recognises that
physical symptoms are often closely connected with our emotional wellbeing and the wider circumstances of our lives. My aim is to create a supportive and welcoming space where you feel heard, understood and comfortable discussing whatever may be affecting your health.
As a therapist, I am committed to providing thoughtful, individualised care, helping people navigate the physical and emotional challenges they may be experiencing and supporting them towards improved health and wellbeing.
As a member of the British Acupuncture Council (MBAcC) and National Society of Counselling and Psychotherapy (NCPS), I am committed to maintaining high standards of professional practice and patient care.
Supporting Mind and Body – Counselling, Psychotherapy and Acupuncture
Alongside my longstanding experience in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, I have completed further training in counselling and psychotherapy. My training followed a pluralistic approach, drawing on a range of therapeutic perspectives, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic and humanistic (person-centred) approaches. I am also trained in somatic EMDR and hypnotherapy. This additional training has deepened my understanding of the complex relationship between our physical health, emotional wellbeing and the experiences that shape our lives. I am now looking to integrate these approaches into my clinical practice, developing a more holistic and individualised way of supporting people with both physical and emotional difficulties.
I believe that effective therapeutic work begins with feeling heard, understood and supported. By drawing together my experience in acupuncture, counselling and psychotherapy, alongside my longstanding interest in yoga and Qi Gong, I hope to offer a space in which people can explore their health and wellbeing more fully, addressing not only physical symptoms but also the emotional and psychological factors that may lie beneath them.
